The lowest rung on the ladder is obligation which means we feel passive and helpless to change anything (Ellis, 2014, p.109). For example, words that are used during this level may include I should, he out to, someone better, they need to, I must, and I had to (Ellis, 2104, p.109). â€Å"Note: When we move to the next rung, we leave behind obligation and advance to self-responsibility† (Ellis, 2014, p.109). This also occurs for the rest of the rungs. The next rung is possibility which means we examine new options at this level (Ellis, 2014, p.109). A Theory of Human Motivation Free Essays

A Theory of Human Motivation There are five basic hierarchical needs that each person must satisfy in order to achieve self-fulfillment. These needs begin with physiological, which includes the automatic drive to fulfill one’s basic nourishment from food, water and air, as well as the choices in the selection of these needs. If these basic physiological needs are not met, all other needs will be ignored until these are satisfied. We will write a custom essay sample on A Theory of Human Motivation or any similar topic only for you Order Now Second is the person’s need for safety, which yields to short term and immediate dangers before considering other long term concerns to maintain safety in the future. The motivation to fulfill these needs include relieving physical discomforts such as pain or temperature extremes, avoiding hazardous risks that could potentially cause harm to one’s self, and also seeking surroundings that are familiar. Once the first two needs have been met, a person will focus on finding acceptance with others, not only with sex, but as a sense of belongingness with a person or groups that has a mutual concern for one another. Failure to satisfy the need for love often results in psychological maladjustments and disconnection in the future. The next is the esteem needs, which is the desire for respect from one’s self as well as respect from others. The next need for self-actualization refers to a person’s desire to become whatever they imagine themselves capable of. If all other needs are satisfied then that person will then seek to improve one’s own self in a way that they feel themselves capable of, and that varies from person to person. While further needs are seldom pursued, the final need is the desire to know and to understand that which has been previously unanswered. This is a need to satisfy one’s greatest curiosities in the final stage of self-fulfillment. Once a need is fulfilled and higher needs become satisfied, a person may shift their attention back to more basic needs that have since been depleted or lost. These needs are only applicable in humans and the study of these needs on animals does not suggest anything about the higher needs of human motivation. To Kill a Mocking Bird Analytical Response free essay sample

Fred Durst an American musician and film maker, said â€Å"Its amazing how, over time, a persons perspective can be altered.† This stands true for almost all people. Most people’s perspective will change after they experience different events. In Harper Lee’s book, To Kill a Mockingbird, we watch as Scout changes her perspective. The book describes a series of events that changes their innocence, shaping their character and teaching them about human nature. Throughout the story, three main events and show this transformation, the trial, when she stands on Boo’s porch and Atticus. Harper Lee develops the idea that one’s loss of innocence often changes one’s perspective. During the trial of Tom Robinson, Scout, Jem, and Dill sneak into the trial and, while watching the trial, they are exposed to many different perspectives and opinions. However, Atticus proves that Tom is innocent because Tom’s left hand has no muscles so it cannot move and Mayella was beaten in places mainly that a left-handed person would do. It is pretty clear that Tom is innocent, however when the jury comes back with their decision they rule Tom guilty. The jury accused Tom as a criminal just because of his race. Other people present in the courtroom such as Atticus believed that everyone should be treated fairly under the justice system. This experience changes Scout because she loses some of her innocence in realizing that everyone is not all they seem to be. She realizes that in reality many people are racist and just judged Tom on his race instead of judging him fairly. When Scout stands on the Radley porch she begins to understand Boo’s perspective. After Boo Radley saves Scout and Jem from Mr. Ewell and talks to Atticus and Mr. Tate, Scout walks Boo home. When Scout is standing on the porch she looks down the street. She had not seen the neighborhood from this angle. She looks around and understands what Boo must see. While she is standing on the porch she goes through what Boo must have seen during the past years. She realizes that Boo did not want to be rewarded and recognized  for saving her life; he liked living out of the limelight. By standing there she fully understands what Atticus meant by you can never really understand a man until you step in his shoes and walk around in them. When Scout was looking on the outside at Boo Radley she didn’t understand why he acted and lived the way he did. By standing on the Radley porch Scout finally realizes and understands why Boo wanted to keep sheltered in his own house and how Boo acted after all those months. In the story, Scout’s father, Atticus, plays a crucial role as Scout grows up. As Scout experiences more and more new events, Atticus helps her understand them and understand other people’s perspectives. Atticus helps Jem and Scout understand the perspective of Mrs. Dubose and even when she yelled at them and insulted Atticus he still thought she was a great lady. Atticus understood Mrs. Dubose and helped her in whatever way he could. Through this Atticus showed Scout that there is usually some good in everyone after you finally understand him or her. Throughout the trial, Atticus taught her how to never judge a person by their race but that every man should be treated equally and judged equally. As Scout grows up and her perspective changes Atticus taught her important lessons such as looking for the good in people and to understand other peoples perspectives as shown, by this quote from Atticus. â€Å"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view until you climb into his skin and walk around in it. During the story, we follow Scout as she grows up. We see as she begins to understand other people’s perspective. We realize during the trial that many people have different perspectives and that not everyone is treated fairly. When she stands on the Radley porch she finally steps into Boo’s shoes and begins to understand his perspective and what he saw throughout the story. Atticus helps Scout realize that there is usually good in most people and that you can never fully understand people until you step into their shoes. As Scout loses her innocence, her perspective also changes and changes the way she views different people and the world around her.

Rhetorical Strategy Commercial Essay free essay sample

Commercials are not always just informative, some convey a message so strong it leaves you thinking about it when it’s over. Most people could care less about watching commercials and would consider them a waste of time, but an opposite handful comes to find them interesting and useful. Many commercials target certain audiences, having the ability to draw the viewers in closer and closer wishing that it were never over. The Guinness Basketball Commercial of 2013 was a top-viewed ad around the nation for it is something that you do not see everyday. When watching this commercial rhetorically, you see things that many normal viewers would not and how well directed this piece of work really is. The Guinness Basketball Commercial exemplifies the aspects of Pathos and Ethos, delivering a inspirational message nationwide through the use of dedication, loyalty, and friendship. This commercial demonstrates dedication, giving up one’s own time to better off a friend that they care about. We will write a custom essay sample on Rhetorical Strategy Commercial Essay or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In the video, nine normal men play wheelchair basketball with their friend who is disabled and cannot enjoy the same experiences they are able to. This is very powerful because you are able to extract the fact that there is not a shot these men would be playing like this if their other friend did not have the ability to walk. Using the rhetoric concept of pathos, the audience is drawn into a state of inspiration and feels what the disabled character has to go through. When they stop playing, the other nine men stand holding the door open for their friend and exit the gym. This makes the audience feel the entitlement of respect for the players who give up their legs just to make their buddy feel included. The disabled man is filled with joy that he has a group of friends who are willing to do anything to make him feel a part of something. This is shown by his positive body language and reactions. The end of the commercial is composed of them going out for a drink after a hard fought, while fun game of basketball. The director is easily able to connect to the focused audience making them want to watch it over and over again, creating more success for the commercial. All in All, through dedication the commercial is titled as one of the most inspiring and most watched ad in 2013. The commercial also delivers a strong message through the use of loyalty for one another. This commercial connected to me especially because I have the type of friends where I know they would do the same for me if I were in a situation like this. While watching this ad, the audience does not know that the other players are able to walk. When finding out, you are given a feeling of happiness and awe not expecting this would be the outcome. This video really captures the element of pathos to make sure the audience stays focused on the commercial with the competitive gameplay and inspiring music in the background. Faithfulness is enticed throughout the entire commercial because even if they were all disabled, it is clear that this group of friends would stick together through any obstacles thrown their way. Even though the commercial does not give away the message of loyalty right away, you can still see glimpses of devotion between the characters and how much they care for each other. After all that is the meaning of being loyal, having someone’s back no matter how bad the outcome looks. This commercial is intended for a more specific audience rather than the general public. Mainly for those who have a good friend that cannot share the things that they are able to do and are willing to help them out. It may even be for those who do have a problem or disability who want to experience activities others can. The possibilities are endless and loyalty is a major characteristic played in the creation of this commercial. Lastly, this commercial is based off the sole purpose of friendship and what it means to be a good friend. While watching you can already tell this group of guys are comfortable with each other and have a strong bond. But when the defining moment comes and you see them stand, the audience is mind blown and friendship becomes an understatement. Sympathy is given to the character in the wheelchair, but at the same time an emotion of jealousy is also exposed towards him for having such a solid gang that cares and loves him. This makes the viewers start to ask themselves, do I have the type of friends that would do the same for me? That one final scene of them sitting around the table and having a beer, defines pathos the most. You see so many other videos and photos of men talking and smiling drinking a beer, it almost acts as a universal definition of the term friendship. The beautiful thing about this commercial is that it is very rare. You don’t hear of everyday situations like this one happening, so it makes it that much more special adding inspiration. And for those that are caught in a situation like this, words cannot even describe how much this ad must have meant to them. Even though many people are not affected or can relate to themselves to this commercial, it gives a sense of hope that there is still good in this world and true friendship still exists. This ad also embeds the rhetoric concept of ethos to tie in credibility along with the amount of pathos that was used. By using a well-known and prestigious beer commercial, the video becomes extremely credible and valid. The audience is put on their feet wondering what will happen next in the commercial which makes it a successful commercial kicking out any previous thoughts they may have had before viewing the short advertisement. You are able to tell that the director put a lot of thought and did a very well job in the creation of this commercial. No one likes watching commercials, but after seeing ones like this, it send chills down your spine making you crave for more. The commercial states, â€Å"The choices we make, reveal the true nature of our character†, and it could not have been said any better with the emphasis on dedication, loyalty, and friendship.

Definition And Conditions Of Decision Making Tourism Essays

Definition And Conditions Of Decision Making Tourism Essays Definition And Conditions Of Decision Making Tourism Essay Definition And Conditions Of Decision Making Tourism Essay As directors and enterprisers, we should hold assurance in our determinations, but can we? Discuss with respect to your ability as a determination shaper and the tools and methods available to help determination devising. Entrepreneur and directors are no longer able to hold assurance in their determination. Because even good directors make errors in their determination devising procedure. Therefore, there are many of the concern administrations seeking to happen out the best method of determination devising procedure. Nevertheless, many of them see terminal in failure or sink in the concern universe. Because, determination devising of administration, as it operates with in the administration, implies that increasing unexpected complexness in environment uncertainness. And this uncertainness means that determination shapers do non hold sufficient information about environmental factors, and they have a hard clip foretelling internal or external alterations. So, uncertainness increases the hazard of failure for organizational responses and makes it hard to calculate costs and chances associated with determination options. Therefore, any administrations want to success in their concern, it is indispensa ble to utilize suited determination devising tools and methods. To understand this essay better, specifying the term of determination devising is necessary. Harmonizing to Fitzgerald, determination doing involves the pick of an alternate from among a series of viing options ( 2002, p. 8 ) . And theories of determination devising are concerned with how such picks are made. This essay will explicate nature of determination devising, tools and methods of determination devising procedure and stairss in determination devising to help determination shapers. Finally, handiness of those tools and methods by directors and enterprisers will be discussed to help their determination devising procedure. First of all, nature of determination devising should be identified before it discusses about its tools and methods. The definition of determination devising is explained in debut. However, determination devising conditions are should be concerned before the existent determinations have been made because the determinations are non ever made under same sum of available information ( Rue A ; Byars, 2007, p. 76 ) . The conditions which give influence to determination devising procedure are: certainty, hazard and uncertainness. Situation of certainty agencies that determination shaper knows every alternate result from the determination so he/she can do determination exactly. For illustration, if director have to do determination on which conveyance service he/she will utilize between by air or by train to present their merchandise or service, it is obvious that air will take comparatively shorter clip but higher cost than train, and train will take longer clip but lower cost than aeroplane. Unfortunately, each alternate brings different results and this is non ever known in progress. Therefore, determination shapers are merely able to gauge their comparative chances of results. Harmonizing to Williams, perceptual experience of hazard means the sum of uncertainness or deficiency of predictability refering the result of a determination ( 2002, p. 86 ) . This is called a state of affairs of hazard. Generally, exact anticipation about chances of assorted results is impossible. Therefore, directors may do their determination based on past experience and historical information. However, Russo and Schoemarker said people do non larn easy from experience because is requires pro-found accomplishments ( 1990, p. 174 ) . Although, hazard can neer be eliminated from determination doing procedure, determination shapers can try to minimise its impact on their result with technique of larning from experience and prediction from historical informations. When there is really small or no dependable information to gauge the assortment of possible results fro determination shaper, this is called state of affairs of uncertainness. Furthermore, this means that the determination shaper does non hold any cognition that concerns the possibilities related with different results. In this circumstance, determination shaper may take one of several attacks. First attack is the maximax attack. Rue A ; Byars choosing the alternate whose best possible result is the best of all possible results for all options ( 2007, p. 77 ) . In the 2nd attack, the maximin attack refers comparing the worst possible results for each option and choosing the 1 that is least unwanted ( Rue A ; Byars, 2007, p. 77 ) . And the last attack is the risk-averting attack. This attack can be resulted in more effectual planning because it is chosen by the option with the least fluctuation among its possible results ( 2007, p. 78 ) . The conditions for determination devising occupy of import place in determination devising procedure by steering determination shapers which determination doing theoretical account they should utilize. Therefore, determination shapers should maintain in head those conditions before they make existent determination for administrations. Decision devising tools and methods in determination procedure support determination shapers to understand complex phenomena in managerial activities. Those tools and methods are able to maximize managerial options within determination doing procedure specifically and depict its state of affairss clearly. The tools are for furthering doing originative determination. And the methods have rational and intuitive methods for effectual determination devising. By utilizing these tools and methods, the ternary bottom line and director s corporate societal duty should be concerned together. Harmonizing to Williams, originative job resolution is non easy and using the tools requires clip, resources, and attempt ( 2002, p. 149 ) . However, to better the quality of administration s of import determination devising procedure, originative determination devising techniques are indispensable. These techniques are such as brainstorming, Gordon technique, nominal group technique, and synectics. Brainstorming can be explained as bring forthing a big measure of solution on a job to happen out its solution among them. By utilizing this tool, there is ab initio no unfavorable judgment and inquiry of thought should be allowed. Then combinations of solutions can be used as determination doing tool for betterment of administration. Gordon technique is similar with brainstorming but it can be differ from that group leader knows the exact nature of the existent job under consideration ( Rue A ; Byars, 2007, p. 84 ) . Nominal group technique is affecting few stairss as extremely structured technique. The order of stairss is listening entering voting-discussion concluding vote. This technique minimizes personal interactions to maximise their activity and cut down force per unit area from conformance with group determination. The synectics is a comparatively new technique used in originative determination doing procedure. This technique uses metaphorical thought to do the familiar strange and the strange familiar ( Rue A ; Byars, 2007, p. 85 ) . None of those techniques is a perfect tool for helping determination shaper s activity. Each technique should be considered as a merely tool that can ease proper determination doing procedure by determination shapers. Rational determination doing method is the most permeant and influential and to utilize rational determination doing efficaciously, this includes the undermentioned stairss: recognising and specifying the state of affairs, developing options, measuring options, choosing the best option, execution, and follow-up and rating ( Robbins, Bergman, Stagg, A ; Coulter, 2006, p. 208-212 ) . First, when job exist, it is necessary to happen out what sort of job it is including administrations current state of affairs. The spread between the current state of affairs and bing job can be identified in this measure. Second, developing options is for happening a cause of job in the state of affairs and garnering information refering the current province of personal businesss. Third, measuring options has a function for assisting determination shaper to measure a solution from among the available options. Forth, choosing the best options is taking the best option from among the evaluated options. Fi fth, execution refers that determination shaper is seting the determination he/she chosen into existent organizational activities. Sixth, the last measure is measuring the effectivity of the implemented determination by determination shaper. These stairss assist determination shaper to optimise administration s result. Fitzgerald believes that embedded within the rational theoretical account is the belief that directors really optimize their determination doing behaviors by intentionally taking and implementing the best options ( 2002, p.13 ) . On the other manus there are similar but somewhat different attack is included in rational method. That is satisfising attack. The difference between optimising attack and satisfising attack in rational method is satisfising is choosing the first option that meets the determination shaper s minimal criterion of satisfaction alternatively of choosing the best possible option from among every possible option ( Rue A ; Byars, 2007, p. 74 ) . Intuitive determination doing method is used when determination shaper decide organizational determination bases on intuitions and intuition ( Robbins, Bergman, Stagg, A ; Coulter, 2006, p. 216 ) . Furthermore, Robbins, Bergman, Stagg, A ; Coulter defined intuitive determination devising as a subconscious procedure of doing determinations on footing of experience and accumulated opinion ( 2006, p. 216 ) . That means an emotional determination is put into action by determination shaper from their head in determination devising procedure. The emotional fond regard can take director to hapless determinations or can be really existent particularly who are populating in the past . However, the key is director should non disregard when the available information exist. Intuition plays an of import function in determination devising procedure. Consequently, it can be said director s experience and opinion is of import when he/she faces the determination doing state of affairs. Learning from the yesteryear is non easy but one time it has become your cognition, it can be of import resource for determination devising as a determination shaper ( Williams, 2002, p. 153 ) . In decision, this essay discussed about definition and conditions of determination devising. The different conditions such as certainty, hazard and uncertainness give different influence on determination devising procedure. And the tools and methods have been identified as that can advance betterment of administration by determination devising and several stairss in determination devising methods to help determination directors and enterprisers. The tools in determination devising procedure allow bettering the quality of administration s of import determination. Then the methods in determination devising are more related to help determination shapers to set one of the possible options on existent action. Decision doing procedure can be improved by recognizing conditions of determination devising and using appropriate tools and methods to jobs determination shaper is faced. To be effectual and efficient in determination devising procedure, directors need to be unfastened to new inform ation and other s sentiment. If directors and enterprisers apply originative and sufficient determination doing accomplishments in their determination devising procedure, there are assorted solutions to accomplish their end or get the better of their job will be allowed without failure in determination devising.

Alcoholsim

The effects of alcohol vary whether the drinker is male or female, adult or adolescent, and the length of time that the drinker has been drinking. The effects can be long-term or short-term. They can range from something as simple as slurred speech all the way to something as severe as death. Alcohol can be responsible for injuries not only to the drinker but also to the people around them. It can cause cardiovascular problems, eye problems, near. e system damage, and even birth defects. It can also affect your brain, liver, and gastrointestinal system. Some of the short-term effects of alcohol are slurred speech, drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach, headaches, difficulty breathing, distorted vision and hearing, impaired judgment, decreased perception and coordination, unconsciousness, loss of red blood cells, and blackouts. With such severe short-term effects, one might wonder, why keep drinking? For those that do continue to drink, these are the long-term effects: increased on- the-job injuries, loss of productivity, increased family problems, alcohol poisoning, high blood pressure, stroke, heart related disease, liver disease, river damage, permanent brain damage, vitamin deficiency, unintentional injuries to ones self or others, and intentional injuries like firearm injuries, s exual assault, and domestic violence. All of which are things to consider before allowing ones drinking to get out of hand. The long-term effects of alcohol abuse and alcoholism can be very devastating and even life threatening, negativity affecting virtually every organ system (Medicine Net). Many adolescent drinkers have the it wont happen to me attitude. Teens drink and party and ignore the health risks. Many teens may know the health asks involved with becoming an alcoholic and what long-term drinking can do to a person. What they dont realize is that for those who are continuously drinking, even though they cant tell at the the moment but their drinking can cause major health problems for them as they enter adulthood. What many teens need to consider, but often ignore is that the most serious effects of teens drinking is that it all leads to adult dependence (Effects of Teenage Drinking). Not only does teen drinking lead to adult dependence but when an individual is a long-term drinker they kill many of their brain cells and the rain can be forever changed. Although alcoholism can cause many serious health issues, for women there area added health risks. It can cause premature menopause, it has been linked to an increase of breast cancer and increase calcium loss in menopausal women. As if those health risks arent scary enough, for women alcoholism can increase their chance of heart disease, memory loss, and reproductive issues. Women who drink while pregnant can also pass the alcohol to their fetus, causing Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. These children grow up with facial abnormalities, growth retardation and brain damage that inhibits their ability to live normal lives (Effects of Alcoholism on Families). However, men who abuse drinking can experience testicular atrophy, impotence, and reduced reproductive functions.Besides the effects that alcoholism is having on their health, most drinkers dont realize that their drinking problem is affecting those around them as well. Drinking affects relationships with spouses, children, and friends. Children that grow up with a parent who is an alcoholic experience low self-esteem, guilty feelings, despair, loneliness, fear of abandonment, depression, and Geiger than normal levels Of stress and anxiety. These children tend to have a harder time making relationship with friends or teachers and tend to be more withdrawn. They may believe that their parents drinking is their fault and frequently cry, have nightmares, and wet their beds. Once they get older, children may not easily make friends. They may hoard things, develop phobias, or exhibit perfectionist traits (Effects of Alcoholism on Families). It is also said that children of alcoholics are less likely to attend college. As children get older they continue to have low self-esteem and often make poor hoicks. Marriage is another common relationship that is affected by drinking.Divorce rates increase when one or both spouses drink. In relationships where only one spouse drinks, the non-drinking spouse will become the caregiver, which often leads to feelings of resentment of the drinking spouse. Many marriages that involve alcoholics suffer from poor or lack of communication, reduced intimacy, abuse, and lack of finances. Many alcoholics will hide money from their spouse and use it for their addiction. Alcohol abuse can be associated with negativity and hostility which usually dads to some sort of abuse in the relationship. The more frequently men are intoxicated, the more likely they are to be verbally and physically violent toward their spouses. 40 t 60% of battered women report that their husbands were heavy or problem drinkers (Alcoholism and Marriage). Alcohol abuse not only affects the drinkers relationships, but it also can have major effects on their way of life. Many times it is the way alcoholism effects relationships that most greatly causes an affect to their way Of life, but it also can affect the drinkers work fife. With increase in on-the-job injuries and loss in productivity, the drinkers work life tends to diminish. When work isnt getting done or getting done right most employers see it as time to find somebody better fitting for the job. When this happens it can cause financial stress on families, especially when the drinker starts using bill money to supply their addiction. The marital stress that is brought from lack of communication and unpaid bills usually leads to other marital problems. As these problems increase, marriages often end in divorce.Living with an alcoholic is never easy, coping with secrets and lies and being manipulated for that next drink. If the bottle turns out to be their one true love, often, the only option is to leave them and salvage your life. (Living with an Alcoholic). Divorce greatly affects the drinkers way of life; they no longer have their family to come home to. The following excerpt is a testimony from a man named Jeff Gauged and how alcoholism affected his life. He writes, l am an alcoholic. Have been clean and sober for several years now. My drinking was out of control for more than half my life.My wife took on the role of head of household and all the stress of that plus dealing with an alcoholic husband and father. I was in the military for several years but was asked to leave after being caught drunk on duty. Afterwards, I had several jobs that only lasted for a short period of time; usually would quit before they asked me to leave. Everyday my wife. Michele, would leave for work knowing would probably be drunk when she returned. On one occasion, the police were called because I had hit her and would not calm down. Am not proud of this, but it happened and it is a part f my life.I had gotten so bad that I would have seizures from alcohol withdrawal when I would have to stop drinking. When my family went to my brothers wedding in another state, I had to make sure would start the trip off in my own selfish way. When I started to come down off the booze I had guzzled before we left, I had a seizure and we had to stop so I could be admitted to the hospital (Alcoholic Husband). This man was lucky enough to have a spouse that stood by him and helped him find his way to recovery. Alcoholics are two times more likely to be divorced than those who dont rink.
